Moacyr Ribeiro de Oliveira, MD
Prior to joining the staff at NWMS, Dr. Oliveira was affiliated with Iowa Blood and Cancer Care, PLC, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and he has served as a teacher in Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplants. Dr. Oliveira is board certified in clinical oncology and internal medicine. He holds memberships in the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Pierce County Medical Society, Washington State Medical Association, and as a Clinical Investigator for the National Cancer Institute.
Frank Senecal, MD, FACP, MBA
Before founding his Tacoma practice in 1985, Dr. Senecal served in public health and taught oncology. Dr. Senecal has served as director of oncology for the Franciscan Cancer Center at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma; medical director of Hospice of Tacoma; chairman of the Department of Medicine and chief of staff at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way. He is also very active in cancer treatment research, has published scientific articles and is a consultant to the American Cancer Society.

Kenneth Bergman, MD
Dr. Bergman completed his residency training at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was awarded an American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Fellowship, and did his internship at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Bergman received his bachelor's degree from the University of California - Santa Barbara and his medical degree from UCLA; he graduated with academic honors from both colleges. While at UCLA, he was involved in basic science and clinical research and published several papers about his work using Positron Emission Tomography (PET), an imaging technique that enables physicians to monitor the chemical function of organs and tissues. He holds memberships with the Pierce County Medical Society, Washington State Medical Association, American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Radiation Oncology, and the American Medical Association.
Dean Mastras, MD
Dr. Mastras joined Tacoma/Valley Radiation Oncology Centers in 1993. He holds medical staff privileges at St. Joseph Medical Center and Tacoma General, Good Samaritan, Allenmore, St. Francis St. Clare and Auburn General hospitals. He holds memberships in multiple medical societies including the Pierce County Medical Society, Washington State Medical Association, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology, American College of Radiation Oncology, Western Association of Gynecologic Oncologists, and the American Medical Association.
Randy Sorum, MD
His medical memberships include the Pierce County Medical Society, Washington State Medical Association, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American Brachytherapy Society, American College of Radiology, American Radium Society, American College of Radiation Oncology, American Board of Radiology, International Radiosurgery Support Association, Association of Freestanding Radiation Oncology Centers and American Medical Association.
Michael McDonough, MD
Dr. McDonough practiced radiation oncology at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He also served on the faculty of the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. He returned to Tacoma to join the Tacoma/Valley Radiation Oncology Centers in June 2001 and holds medical staff privileges at St. Joseph Medical Center and Tacoma General, Good Samaritan, Allenmore, St. Francis, St. Clare and Auburn General hospitals. He holds memberships with the Pierce County Medical Society, Washington State Medical Association, American College of Radiology, American College of Radiation Oncology, American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, and American Brachytherapy Society. His clinical interests include 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, brachytherapy, breast and prostate cancer, and hyperbaric medicine.
Herbert Wang, MD
Dr. Wang joined Tacoma/Valley Radiation Oncology Centers in August of 2004. He holds staff privileges at Auburn General Hospital, Good Samaritan, MultiCare Health System, and Franciscan Medical Group. He holds memberships in multiple medical societies including The American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Radiology, American College of Radiation Oncology, American Medical Association, Pierce County Medical Association, and Washington State Medical Association. ![]()
Kevin Sanders, MD
Dr. Sanders is extensively trained in all aspects of radiation treatment with a special expertise in highly conformal radiation treatment including Intensity Modulated Radiation Treatments (IMRT). The goal of this treatment is to deliver maximum dose to the tumor while avoiding surrounding normal tissues. He also completed a fellowship in prostate brachytherapy with the Seattle Prostate Institute. Dr. Sanders is board eligible in therapeutic radiology by the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Sanders joined the Tacoma/Valley Radiation Oncology Centers team in 2006. He is a membership of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology, American College of Radiology, American Brachytherapy Society, American Medical Association, and his application is in the works for Pierce County Medical Society and Washington State Medical Society. ![]()
Nathan Bittner, MD
After receiving both bachelor's and master's degrees in the Department of Bioengineering from the University of Washington, Dr. Bittner went on to earn a medical doctorate from the University's highly acclaimed School of Medicine. He remained to complete his internal medicine internship and radiation oncology Residency within the University of Washington hospital system. As a resident, Dr. Bittner authored articles in a number of peer-reviewed journals. He also presented his research at several national meetings. As a chief resident, he served as the fellowship coordinator for the American Brachytherapy Society. He serves on the Guidelines and Standards Committee of the American College of Radiology.
Ann Pittier, MD
Dr. Pittier is particularly passionate about the treatment of breast and gynecologic cancers. Additionally, she has a strong background in utilizing radiotherapeutic treatments for solid tumors, including pulmonary, gastrointestinal, head and neck, sarcoma, and central nervous system disorders. Dr. Pittier has extensive experience with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, Image Guided Radiation therapy and Stereotactic Radiosurgery. She is also highly skilled at brachytherapy for breast, gynecologic and prostate cancers. Dr. Pittier is currently board certified in Internal Medicine as well as board eligible by the American Board of Radiology. She is a member of the American College of Radiation Oncology.
Franciscan Health System A part of the Franciscan Cancer Center, the Jane Thompson Russell Cancer Care Center features a state-of-the-art infusion therapy center, offering a wide range of outpatient treatments and complementary therapies like massage and acupuncture. Franciscan also offers a cancer nurse navigator to offer assistance with appointments or referral to other specialists, a cancer resource center, support groups, community programs, and other helpful online resources. ![]()
Susan Nixon, RN, MNc, OCN®, CBCN™
She earned her bachelor's degree at Pacific Lutheran University, graduating with summa cum laude honors, and is currently completing her masters studies in nursing at the University of Washington Tacoma. Susan's oncology experience in nursing began in 2001, working as an RN in the inpatient oncology unit at St Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. Through her work, in 2009 Susan launched the breast cancer nurse navigator program at Franciscan Health System. Her experiences in nursing to the many patients living with cancer makes Susan uniquely qualified to support people by helping navigate their cancer journey. She holds dual certifications in oncology nursing and in breast care nursing. Susan is also an instructor for the Oncology Nursing Society, teaching the Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course to oncology nurses, and has been recently been published in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing, "Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs: Are you protected?". |
